Melanie's Freshman Year In English 9A

ACADEMIC GOALS

Throughout the next four years I will spend in high school I have many goals. One of them is to
completely out do myself. I want to get straight ‘A’s all throughout high school so I can get into a
great college. I plan to work my absolute hardest at keeping my grades up and showing what I am
capable of. I plan to take a lot of math and science classes because that’s what is very important
when you want to go into the medical field. I also plan to take a Spanish class every year. I am
already in Spanish 3 and I hope to become a fluent Spanish speaker.

Outside of school I love sports. I play basketball, volleyball, and my favorite, softball. My plan is
to try to get a scholarship for softball which means I need to practice a lot more and try my hardest
to get better. So I’m pretty sure these next four years will be very busy for me.

After high school I would love to attend University of Michigan. That is my first choice. Other
than that I have heard that Michigan State has a great medical program, so that’s always a possibility.
Last but not least, I chose an out of state college. University of North Carolina is very appealing to me.
I have to research good medical schools though before I make any concrete decisions.

CAREER GOALS

When I graduate high school I plan to go to a med school. I really want to be a surgeon. All my life I
have wanted to be a doctor. I recently discovered I want to be a surgeon, and the next step is figuring
out what kind of surgeon. I am stuck in between a neuro surgeon and a cardio surgeon. When I pick
a profession, I want to help people. When I was little I used to play doctor and I can’t wait to do it in
real life.

I know that to be a doctor you have to be good at math and science, which I am. I’m really good with
leadership and explaining things. I’m not quite sure if I want to stay in Michigan or move out of state.
I have yet to figure that out. Part of the reason I want to be a surgeon is the pay. I want to be able to
provide for my family and have money put away for my retirement. I grew up in a struggling home.
My mom works two jobs, and is going back to school to provide for our family. I don’t want my family
in the future to have the same life I do. I think we all agree that surgeons get paid pretty generously.

I also would love the excitement that goes on in hospitals. Something is always going on, the ER
is never boring. Which sounds like a lot of fun. Whether its just casting a broken arm or doing a heart
transplant I can’t wait to get start in the medical field.
